I want to tell my experience about my trip to East Java especially to Mount Bromo when I was still at the secondary school, 12 years ago. I went with my parents, uncle, my friend and a driver. Our family started the tour from Bogor to Tegal, Central Java. We stayed one night in the hotel.

The next day, we started our trip from Tegal to Surabaya, East Java. We stayed the night in Garden Hotel at Jl. Pemuda Surabaya. The next day we concluded the trip. We chose the route from Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, and stopped in Gending, a small town, about 12 km at the east of Probolinggo to meet an old friend.
In the afternoon we went to Mount Bromo through Probolinggo. When we arrived in Probolinggo, our car turned to the south. During our trip, we crossed jati forests and fresh air. At last we came at the hotel. At this moment we couldn't see the beautiful scenery from the hotel because of the darkness. The weather became cold and we had to wear thick clothes. We had dinner in a small restaurant near the hotel. After dinner, we slept.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/1265461003_a.jpg
When I was still asleep, at two o'clock in the morning my parents wake up me. I didn't know what happened. There was an earthquake. Something funny happened, my friend directly brushed his teeth when he was awakened. He thought that we wanted to start to see the scenery. In fact it was only an earthquake. After that we slept again.
At 4 o'clock in the morning, the hotel attendant wake us up to be prepared to go to Pananjakan by jeep, a strategic place to watch the beautiful scenery of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeru.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/1265461003_d.jpg
Time passed by. It was a pity that we couldn't see the rising sun because of the cloudy sky. We were still lucky because of the good weather we could see the beautiful scenery. The three mountains are located in a National Park. Mount Semeru is the highest mountain in Java island. My father took photos of the beautiful scenery at the National Park.
When it was clear, we went back to the hotel. From the hotel, we went by horse through the sea sand which is going towards the crater. We climb by stairs towards the top. At the top we could see the Mount Bromo's crater clearly which is still smokey.
After that we came back to the hotel and our trip to the mountain is finished. After that we went to Malang, a cold town at the south of Surabaya. After we visited a recreation park near Malang, we rested in the hotel. The next day we went back to Bogor and our trip to East Java was ended.

Having long been considered an iconic cosmopolitan nation and the poster boy for globalization; Singapore erupts in a spontaneous frenzy of fierce national pride on August 9th as it celebrates National Day. The first Singapore National Day was celebrated in 1966 after gaining its independence from Malaysia. It was a small but elegant affair with Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and other government officials organizing it on the steps of City Hall.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Park-Hyun-Sun-Gold-Rush-Basketball-02.jpg
Today the National Day parade has grown into a grand celebration and a demonstration of Singapore's prowess as an economic power to be reckoned with in the region. In the past the parade was held at the historic Padang where the declaration of independence was signed, but since 2009 the event has been moved to the Marina Bay waterfront to accommodate more spectators.http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Park-Hyun-Sun-Gold-Rush-Basketball-04.jpg
Each year a special theme is chosen for the National Day, for example in 2009 the theme was "Come together- Reaching out, Reaching up" which drew its inspiration from the country's national pledge which embraces ethnic diversity. The 2010 National Day celebrations bear special significance as it falls on the 45th anniversary of independence. The theme - "Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag" expresses the desire of Singaporeans to work together and usher in a new era of prosperity.

The tickets for the event which will be held on August 09 at the Padang have already been released. Among the highlights of this years parade will be the fly-past conducted by the Singapore Air force featuring more than 30 aircraft and helicopters. A display by the Red Lions - Singapore Armed Forces Parachute Team and the first ever Presidential Drive Past would also be some of the highly awaited events.http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/12/28/26/01/logo_f11.jpg

Situated at the southernmost tip of the Malay Peninsula with a land area of 685.4 km2, Singapore is an island-state with a 4.2 million population. It consists of one main island and 63 islets, some of the more well-known ones being: Pulau Tekong, Pulau Ubin, St John's Island, Kusu Island, Pulau Hantu, Jurong Island. Pulau means "island" in Malay
.http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/park-si-hyun-01.jpg
Modern Singapore was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819 when it was little more than a swamp. Only until the "rightful" Johorean heir agreed to sell the island to the British that it became a colony. Widely known and recorded by many sojourners as Temasek - Sea Town - by the 14th century, Singapore was a thriving vassal state of the Sri Vijayan empire.
Legend has it that a Palembang prince called Sang Nila Utama was responsible for the present-day name, Singapura meaning Lion City. In Sanskrit and Malay, Singa = Lion + Pura = City. It was while seeking refuge from a storm with his entourage that Sang Nila Utama spotted a mousedeer - which he was told a lion. But lions' natural habitat is the grassy plains or the savannah, not jungles.

As the British had ruled Singapore for about a hundred and forty years till 1963, one of the legacies is the English Legal System. As well as English which is the language of administration, business and instruction in schools from kindergarten upwards. In addition to Malay, Mandarin and Tamil that make up the official languages of the country.
Furthermore, Malay is the national language as enshrined in the Constitution. This is partly in recognition of the indigenous status of the Malays. The national coat of arms depicts a lion and a tiger, the latter indicating Singapore's historical links to Malaysia. This is a visual reminder to Singaporeans that they cannot severe their ties with Malaysia. Even many Malaysian Malays still view Singapore as Malay territory till today.

What is more interesting is a Dutch economist who developed Singapore's economic blueprint; helping the country to attain success. The late Dr Albert Winsemius, who passed away in 1996, was appointed as the country's Chief Economic Advisor from 1961 to 1984.http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/12/28/26/01/logo_f11.jpg

Our hotel, Ariadne, was situated just outside of Retymnon in an area called Palatanes. Truly a wonderful place to be if it wasn't for the fact that we had arrived during one of the two rainiest weeks in October. We had planned a bus journey to a nearby convent which was cancelled due to bad weather.
But man and wife alone in Crete can still be great fun. We played quite a bit of cards, and the Greek cognac - Metaxa - and Ouzo was nice whereas my wife mostly enjoyed Pisang Ambon with banana juice.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/lhs_0642_resize.jpg
But our walks were lovely. We saw quite a few local tavernas and had the exquisite joy of having our favorite lunch - tuna salad with lots of fresh vegetables. Already on the second day they remembered that both my wife and I weren't all that happy with olives. So they served the tuna salad without olives on the other five days. The one day we spent in central Retymnon caused them to miss us.
This is one thing you should know about Greeks. They are very loving people, and when you behave decently and show your appreciation for them, they will do anything for you. It is one of the few places where you feel welcome immediately.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/lhs_0681_resize.jpg
One traditional danish dish, that tastes even better when it's raining cats and dogs, are roasted apples as garnish for meat. It tastes so much better with Greek apples, and you really owe it to yourself to experience Greek foods. Their bread is baked with true love, and you can really feel a totally different atmosphere from other tourist destinations we have visited.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/lhs_0741_resize.jpg
My wife celebrated her birthday while we were away, and it was great fun to enjoy this day under a different setting from the normally rather cold scandinavian weather. On our way back from dinner we had the funniest experience with ice cream. Here, they are mostly served in cones or little glasses. Down there, they had boxes - and we tried all sorts of flavors we couldn't even get here. The taste of fruit was real - not just some artificial flavor...
So, even when weather is bad, you can have great fun when you take things in a good mood. Many would have been disappointed by such weather. We still speak fondly of that vacation so we can guarantee you can enjoy your vacation also when you visit the island of Crete. We plan on trying their island again in a couple of years. We will bring our kids next time, and we will probably visit the island in June or July. But you owe it to yourself to test the island. It's a lovely people with an amazing scenery with little mountains all over the place.

Medan is a sprawling city that clusters around the Deli and Babura rivers. A taxi from Polonia airport into town should set you back around Rp50,000. If you fancy a day's exploring, why not take a walk around the city or alternatively, save your legs and take a spin in one of the city's unique, three wheeled motorised becak (rickshaw). Medan is chock-full of Dutch colonial architecture and many of these old buildings are still in use. Medan's City Hall, central Post Office, Water Tower and the Titi Gantung railway bridge all make for great photo opportunities
.http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Park-Hyun-Sun-Basketball-Dress-02.jpg
Medan's Mesjid Raya (Grand Mosque) can be found in the centre of town on the corner of Jl Mesjid Raya and Jl SM Raja. This unusual Moroccan style building was erected by the Sultan in 1906 and features Italian marble, CHinese stained glass and many ornate carvings. Just around the corner from the mosque you'll find the somewhat dilapidated Istana Maimoon (Maimoon Palace). The palace was built by the Sultand of Deli in 1888 and the current Sultan still lives there.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Park-Hyun-Sun-Basketball-Dress-01.jpg
JMuseum wise, the Museum of North Sumatra over on Jl HM Joni houses a large collection of Sumatran artifacts, including some fascinating stone carvings from Nias. More architectural ghosts of Medan's colonial past can be found along Jl Ahmad Yani starting from Jl Palang Merah and heading north to Lapangan Merdeka. Lapangan Merdeka itself is a former parade ground surrounded by beautiful old art deco buildings. If you're after something a little more culturally contemporary then why not pop along to the Tondi Gallery at Jl Keladi Buntu No 6 for a modern art fix.
http://www.highqualityreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Park-Hyun-Sun-Basketball-Dress-06.jpg
Further out of town, Hill Park at Green Hill City Sibolangit lies an hour's drive from the downtown area and features plenty of funfair rides, entertainments, cafes and restaurants. A visit to the park makes a really nice day out for the kids. Alternatively, the Pantai Cermin Theme Park lies on the coast 40 minutes from town and is a water park featuring slides, pools, jet skis and plenty more besides.
If you're feeling peckish after all that, rest assured that Medan's healthy ethnic mix of Batak, Chinese, Javanese, Minangkabau and even Indian peoples will ensure a tasty meal. Tip Top Restaurant at Jl Ahmad Yani 92 was at one time the place to eat and dates right back to colonial times. The nostalgic flavours of ox tongue sandwich and Dutch bitterballen can be ordered from a very sweet little typewriter printed menu that seems to have been caught in a time warp. Bollywood Food Centre over at Jl Muara Takus No 7 serves up spicy Indian food and various Malay Indian roti shops are also located nearby.
After dark, the new and hip Cava Lounge is perhaps the slinkiest bar in town and a great place in which to enjoy a few cocktails. Alternatively, the Shoot Pool Lounge and Sports Bar over on Jl Kapten Pattimura features live big-screen sports action plus pool, liv emusic and DJs. The Tavern in the now somewhat aged Hotel Danau Toba over at Jl Imam Bonjol 17 remains a popular nightspot.
